Pilgrimage to Jerusalem, from the small town to the temple

In this virtual tour we will join the pilgrim and his family as they leave their home and reach Jerusalem, walk its streets and reach the temple. Different sources (historical, archaeological and others) will be used during the tour to get the feeling of pilgrimage, its rituals and meetings. Join us and walk the pilgrimage road!

One of the highlights of the Second Temple period was the pilgrimage- visiting the holy city. It was done three times a year- on Pesach (Passover), Shavuot (Pentecost) and Sukkot (Tabernacles). Each and every one of these festivals had a dual meaning- a religious- Jewish history aspect and an agricultural one. Not everyone was able to come three times a year, especially those living far from Jerusalem and outside Israel.

These might have arrived only once in a lifetime! We will join the pilgrim walking from the small village in Judea to Jerusalem, from the simple life to the big city, where many people from many places spoke different languages- all in one place. We will discuss purity and sacrifice, we will see the hotels and markets and we will try to get the feeling- how was it to be a pilgrim, two thousand years ago…

This Zoom meeting is guided by an Israeli licensed tour guide and open for Q&A.
